Hi everyone.
So glad I've found this space.
Huge wake up call. Diagnosed 2 weeks ago 105, so very high. Taking the metformin, increased to 2 in second week and will discuss more with diabetes nurse tomorrow. I'm vegetarian and have switched to low carb diet and have lost weight in 2 weeks.
Can I ask, have people suffered with blurred vision after taking metformin, is this to with blood sugars dropping/changing after meds and does this settle down...I'm getting quite scared.
Thanks all
It is a scary period but be assured that within 2-3 weeks your vision will be back to where it was .My vision went blurred overnight some 2x weeks after I was diagnosed .Thank you, it's a bit hit and miss but I'm still getting used to it all, hopefully things will start to level off soon. I saw the DN this morning and didn't really comment on the vision, it's all a bit disorienting and affecting my mood so much. Hopefully within a few days my eyes will adjust. Thank you again.
A fasting blood sugar of 105 mg/ dL doesn't look very high. Up to 125 is pre-diabetes... Am I missing something here ? Perhaps it's an HbA1c of 105 which IS jolly high. I DO wish people would write their units....Hi everyone.

Thanks Brekkie, as Newbies it's great that peeps on here are able to help with thier lived experiences.Hi Batul
Just bear with it. It will get better as folks on here have said. My eyes are a lot better recently as more consistent lower blood sugar readings.
I wish I had discovered this forum earlier. It would have saved me from a lot of anxiety and crying too!
I’m not really sure what to expect on going for my first ever diabetic eye check....
As a newbie myself It’s very encouraging to hear of your positive successes and highlights
Kind regards
B
Thanks jonnyxs, agreed...I can't believe I've lost weight already and brought my BS levels down ( I test) with a vegetarian LCHF diet so much already and pleased I've decided not to take meds any more.It is a scary period but be assured that within 2-3 weeks your vision will be back to where it was .My vision went blurred overnight some 2x weeks after I was diagnosed .
We often forget that we are ,or should be, responsible for our own health and well being. I took 120ng Gliclazcide twice daily for about 6x weeks and switched to a low carb diet by which time my fasting BG level went from 28 mmol/L to 6 mmol/L so i stopped taking the Gliclazcide . I researched Metformin and decided early on that I would not take it despite that my GP prescribed it. The manufacturers recommend caution if you have Liver issues which most of us do. We can manage our blood glucose levels far more effectively both initially and long term than Metformin can simply by cutting down significantly on the source of the problem.... Sugar and refined Carbohydrates.
If 7 mol/litre = 126 mg/dL[{ x18 to convert } Then 14 x18 = 250+ mg/dL which is far too high. What is the target ? I use the graph I found here. https://www.bloodsugar101.com/what-is-a-normal-blood-sugar. from Prof Christiansen. Try to stay under the brown line,[ upper limit of " normality" ?} He shows the 2 hour number is about 115 mg/dL, but some other sources say the two hour figure could be 140. Therefore, I guess anything over 140 after 2 hours is bad news. Can anyone advise how long BG should stay over seven after eating I am getting 14-16 for 2-3 hours
Hi I am a Type 1 but it was my double vision when driving that sent me to the opticians. Eye test wasn't due for another 9 months (2yr cycle). They noted "significant change in 15mths" but gave me new prescription for varifocals which I duly bought. Diagnosed 3 weeks later.Hi everyone.

So pleased things are settling for you and I take encouragement from that, thank you for sharingMine is just settling now 5 weeks into diagnosis. I was petrified it would be permanent
Thank you Mrs HJG for sharing your experience, it's really helpful to hear how things improved for you. I just need to hold my nerve as another post advised. I've taken some time out of work also.I can concur that blurred vision when dropping BG is a shock, and the diabetes team did not warn me about it. I was off work for a month as I couldn't read my computer screen without holding a huge magnifying glass, which left no hands for typing and gave me a headache after a few minutes!
Hopefully you will find your distance will start coming back first, I got confident to be able to go for a walk a long time before I was able to focus on the TV and then finally read my computer and phone.
Scary and frustrating, but probably to be expected, and hopefully time and lower BG will resolve soon enough.
