...can anyone advise me on how to keep to modified low-medium carb diet i.e. has anyone here been to China for a week or two and kept their BG managed even though the Chinese diet is significantly based on the staples of noodles and rice = both of which I gave up last month !

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hi there! You will really enjoy China - such an exciting place with such tangible history. But, more importantly your food worries. If you are staying at a hotel, the breakfasts usually have eggs as an option so you will be ok there. Main meals always have a good selection of veg, soups and protein like fish, meat and poultry. Fruit wise, we were served a great deal of watermelon.

I'm a veggie and survived there for 10 days on a diet of Chinese beer, pakchoi, nuts and egg fried rice. But then I was younger and slimmer!

Recently diagnosed type 2 myself so I can appreciate the dilemmas!

Have a great time :)

Thanks.

I am there for almost 2 weeks- conference and then a break. I organised it all before my diagnosis and of course my love of Chinese food was a clinching factor (irony irony) !

Yes after the conference venue I am in Swissotel and then Hilton airport for last day- so brekkie is not going to be a problem. Unless I spot 'basmati rice' I shall not be partaking; and no noodles. But steamed veggies and as much protein as I can take will do the trick. Not drinking beer for the moment- want a sub 6.0 HB test 2-in-a-row before I consider the odd beer. But red wine is still on my list
