Hi all,
In May 2024 I had a daytime severe hypo, I was aware and taking glucose at the time to resolve, unfortunately this did not kick in quickly enough and this resulted in an ambulance being called. In A&E they confirmed that not only had I had a severe hypo and seizure, I also had a heart attack. This resulted in having 3 stents fitted and being referred to Neurology for an MRI.
I have been a type 1 diabetic for 38 years and had a few severe hypos over the years, although only a couple in the day time. I have not spoken to anyone in Neurology from the day of my hypo but they have given me a diagnosis of focal epilepsy which means as it stands it will be a year before I can drive. My HP and Diabetes Consultant can't understand the diagnosis and I have read lots if medical journals describing the misdiagnosis of hypoglycemic seizures as Focal epilepsy. At best this was a provoked seizure due to hypo, as every seizure I have had in my life has been at the time of having a hypoglycemic event.
If this is a provoked seizure then it will significantly reduce the time I am unable to drive so this really is important for me, has anyone been through a similar scenario who would be kind enough to share what they know or suggest what I can do from here.
Steve
