Hi
My name is Brian, I am 67 yrs old and as far as I am aware I do not have any symptoms of diabetes but I am interested in keeping a healthy lifestyle.
For breakfast I eat a bowl of fresh fruit salad which typically consists of an apple-pear-orange-kiwi-banana plus a dessert spoon of oat bran and some Greek Style unsweetened yoghurt(4.8gms of sugar per 100grams) I share this with my wife. We have this one morning and then on alternate days we have a homemade smoothie consisting of a banana-orange-kale-spinach-pepper cress plus the oat bran and yoghurt which makes an 8-10 oz glass of smoothie. In addition I also have a bowl of porridge.
Lunch will usually consist of an apple.
Evening meals are fish on three days with veg or stir fry Chicken twice a week with veg or stir fry red meat on one or two days with either veg or jacket potato/oven chips.
I take exercise most days of the week, either walking or cycling for at least an hour each day(at least five days per week)..
I have two questions to ask - I understand that the sugar content in fresh fruit does not turn to fat bit still worry that I might be consuming too much sugar with all the fruit eaten.
Secondly is there anything else I could do to improve my lifestyle and reduce the risk of diabetes. Recently I have put on about 7lbs and am now 12st 7lbs and 5ft 8ins so my BMI is over 25.
Any advice would be appreciated

Quite a well balanced diet for a non diabetic, just because you are putting on a little weight doesn't mean you are prediabetic.
The only thing for me is to spread out your fruit, as too much at once is an overload of sugars.
For example if you have a smoothie in the morning, wait until your evening meal before you have more. Don' forget all carbs turn to sugar.

Hi and thanks for that. I thought that when I read a label and it stated the number of carbs "of which ... are sugars" this meant that only some turned to sugar.
Thank you for the info.
