Diet Doctor Low Carb Challenge

I noticed and it looked like one you would enjoy. I should add that I have added green beans to the curry and spinach is going in too. Much as I love aubergine there was a lack of greenery for me.

It sounds very yummy. We're having Christmas leftovers.... I found a 500g Tupperware of sliced bronze free range turkey breast which needs eating so I thought I'd do all the traditional trimmings to go with it.

It's our 20th anniversary tomorrow (second time around for both of us) and we're going to a highly recommended tapas restaurant for dinner instead of our normal carvery It's one of those where you pay a fixed price and then keep ordering dishes two at a time until you are full. I've just been looking at the menu planning what will fit in to VLC - and it doesn't look like very much - fish and chicken mainly. I just hope they don't put a big basket of bread on the table like the last tapas place we went to. My friend ate there last week and managed 16 dishes so I think they must be quite small.

Decaff will be next on the agenda if it is causing a rise. I was going up about 1.2 or as much as 2 on average. Trouble is if you are getting up to a 7.3 / 7.5 that is a significant rise . If I was getting up to high 5's low 6's I could live with it. Will see how it goes.
PS Curry needed a bit more chilli. Hate to disagree with Madhur Jaffrey but it was a wee bit too mild for us. Nicely spiced but needed more heat.

@Chook another variation on your avocado. It's a soft poached egg in the middle of the avocado , close it, wrap in panchetta and fry

You're only cooking it long enough to crisp the panchetta so the egg stays soft.
Curry was delicious by the way and I seem to have got the hang of DD naan bread. I'm stuffed!

I have always been a bit ambivalent about avocado. I eat them because they are the nearest thing to a healthy convenience food I can think of - but the idea of a hot avocado doesn't appeal at all for some reason.

Its tiddling down here - so much for day out to the seaside.

Gotta laugh - someone Mr C used to work with is looking for a good home for his deceased Mother's Black Lab girl and Mr C asked me if I thought we could cope with another one. Quick answer: No. Luckily, I managed to find her a good home with a friend of mine whose just lost her Lab girl so the problem is sorted. For a moment there I thought I was going to end up with another one. Bit of a sad story really - the chap's mother died and the dog stood guard over her body for three days (possibly four) until someone got worried enough to contact the Police.

Wow. Glad the dog has gone to a good home. Tragic story.

Re the avocado, funnily enough, I LOVE it hot, but am much less fond when cold. It is definitely like eating a different food, so I wouldn't knock it til you've tried it (although of course you have have already done that )

My favourite meal with avocado is baked in a little pot.
1 avo
a tablespoon of salsa (chopped tomato, onion, chilli, coriander)
1 egg dropped on top
a sprinkle of cheese
bake until the egg is as firm as you like it.

lush.

Well I don't know what the heck is going on today unless it is my bug having a last hurrah before departing. I am at the nasty coughing stage and that's 2 bad nights now where I've been up a few times with a coughing fit. Anyway yesterday's curry sensation went well. Despite the size of the meal I was 6.7 before and 6.7 after so all was well.
I went to bed on 7 which was fine and got up to a fasting 7.7 also fine.
Still off the coffee, did the school run , back to make breakfast and what the?.....? I'm 9.2???
What did I do for that? Had breakfast and I was 8.6 at 1 hr and 7.7 at 2 hrs. So it's dropping at least. My legs are still bad but apart from the cough and being a bit warm I feel not too bad. No doubt it will continue to drop. I still have leftovers from yesterday so same meal again minus the wine.

PS did you notice yesterday that a new study has said a glass of red wine is equivalent to 1 hour in the Gym?

Well maybe i am coming down with something now...

My fab bg over the past 3 weeks has gone up in smoke. Readings are now higher than before I started DD.
Also inflammation in hand joints has flared up.

Will wait and see what happens next...

A drop of red wine is definitely my kind of work out.

Yes, I'm at the coughing stage too. Miserable isn't it?

Have you tried munching on a piece of cheese or ham or something before the school run?

Oh noooooooo - is the inflammation in your hand joints anything to do with arthritis? I know when my arthritis is bad that my BG is always higher and this damp weather triggers my arthritis - especially in my knees.

I'm looking forward to trying out my new fasting plan with Diet Doctor recipes for my eating days. After a fasting day I always want something very simple like hot roast chicken or steak and salad. If I have anything spicy or fatty it doesn't seem to sit well on a completely empty tummy.

never had a diagnosis of anything on my joints.
The one time I mentioned it to a doc they showed no interest and just said 'take some over the counter anti inflammatories'.
Which did NOTHING to address the root cause.
I have found that both my knees and my hand joints feel much better the lower carb I am, and have been the best for 10 years since giving up gluten.

Maybe I accidentally ate something with wheat in, over the last couple of days. Was out to breakfast twice, which is incredibly indulgent. Am puzzled about the bg rise though. It happened last night, just after dinner, even though the dinner was the DD stuffed peppers (delish) and only had about 8-10 g carbs in the portion. It has stayed high ever since.

@Brunneria. Maybe you're coming down with something - or maybe it's the inflammation in your hands. *hug*

Seriously miserable. I have about 4 or 5 attacks a day and nothing stops it. I've tried munching all sorts before the school run. Nothing has worked. Rest of the day has been OK. I dropped to 6.3 rose to 7.1 then dropped back to 6 pre dinner. Will see how things are in a couple of hours.
Did you have a nice tapas meal? We're going out on Thursday but it is a quick pre theatre meal. We're going to The Committments- had the tickets since November. Hope this cough has gone by then.
There's a tapas place next door but I'm not sure I could resist croquettas. Will probably settle for a steak and salad and a red wine

That appeals to me too. Some wee bits of black pudding would go well in that too.

How are you feeling now? @Brunneria I think you will find it is the bug....Mr B had it didn't he? My OH had it too and it took about a week to pass onto me. It seems to have several incarnations each more vile than the one before. I think you need cake .....and a glass or 2 of red wine. Xxx

Im feeling ok thanks. Still a bit stiff in the hand, but it is easing. Bg has been around 7 all day, which is very unusual.

Obviously i am hoping it isn't the plague

I saw something, somewhere today suggesting we all cut our avocados in the wrong way.

Mainly, folks cut from the fatter end, around to the thinner, more pointed end, then remove the stone with a knife.

The alternative is to take the top off, a bit like one does on a boiled egg. Twist off the top, then squeeze the bottom and the stone pops out. I bet an egg could go nicely in the stone cavity.

Avo is a once in a while thing for me.

We have been avocado-less this week.
They weren't in the delivery
I am sure I ordered them, but none arrived, and I couldn't quite bring myself to go out and make a special trip for 2 avocados.

As you can imagine, it has been traumatic. I have had to use extra butter and mayo instead

Jeepers! If it was me bad enough no coffee but avocado withdrawal too ? I'd meltdown. Today was better than yesterday although still a highish start point. Bed on 7.9 and up to a FBG also 7.9. The post school run/pre breakfast took me to 8.3 so only up 0.4. 2 hrs later down at 7. If the start point would just drop a bit.
How are you today? I still have this lousy cough and can't seem to shake it.

I loved the film of The Commitments - I hope you had a nice time at the theatre - and that you don't get a coughing attack in the middle of the performance.

Avocado-less? Oh nooooooo Its easy to forget things when doing supermarket orders. Last week I forgot to order Mr C any fruit at all and he eats a lot of fruit. We popped in to Lidl to get some and really their prices are very good. We are wondering why we bother getting groceries delivered when we live a five minute drive from a brand new Lidl.

The tapas - it was GORGEOUS! The idea is you start with three dishes each (each dish is 4 inches and they really do fill them). I started with calamari which came with a little salad and a very rich garlic mayo and some mussels in wine and an aubergine dish. After the first 3 dishes you then each order 2 more dishes at a time until you are full. We had seven each and by the end I could hardly move. We avoided all the bread, rice or potato dishes but there were still plenty of dishes that were suitable to choose from but there were a few little carbs in there somewhere because my BG was 5.1 when we left home and 6.8 two hours after we finished eating. It was worth it though!! The only problem was that my BG was 7.8 this morning. Never mind, Mr C is back to work tomorrow and I think I will have a fasting day as all my clothes are feeling a bit.... snug.

Then this morning we went to Scunthorpe and popped in to M&S and we ended up with one of their three for £7 deals - chargrilled squid, crab mousse and an olive/artichoke heart'sundried tomato mixture. All of which were very nice. @maglil55 is it the M&S chargrilled squid with cracked black pepper that you have?

joints less achey, bg lower, but not down to my recent glorious lowliness, and a sore throat this morning that lasted a whole half hour. Poss due to dry air and snoring...? Mr B refuses to admit that I was snoring. Bless him. He maintains this gentlemanly fiction that we both know is nonsense.

Still waiting to see what happens re Plague... lol.
