Hi

I am type 1 and I am struggling with my weight!

I have joined a well know slimming company, but it is all about free food - which is lovely if your not taking insulin as these free foods are full of sugar, even if its natural sugar it still spikes the blood levels.

Can anyone suggest anything - PLEASE

Welcome to the forums.

I can only suggest that you look at how many carbohydrates you're eating every day. When you have an estimate, then look again, and see if you can reduce the amount. Things you might want to pay extra attention to are rice, pasta, potato, bread and cereals.

Read the Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) section in the forums and see if it's something that you'd like to try.

i once watched a programme on telly of this woman who was advising on how to diet. The main thing she said was before you eat look at the food and say to yourself am I eating this because I am hungry or because I like it. Also when eating keep thinking of those words. It works for me. In this way no special diet just cut down. Count your carbs you have eaten and inject to suit. Or if you have to inject first look at the food first and think the same

Hi Sarahjordy!

I am familiar with some of those slimming clubs and just a word of caution. Some of the recipes can spike your sugars. For example they say potatoes are fine....which they are but mashed potatoes can actually cause a big surge in your sugars. Can I suggest you look into th GI food index along with this slimming club. Gives great insight into what foods can cause spikes and which foods keep you relatively stable.

Good luck!!!

Personally I am of the very low carb club. It certainly reduces my insulin needs, stops the hunger we can get from roller coaster BS therefore allowing me to keep meals and snacks on the small side. I eat about an 80% fat diet but I don't glob it on. An avocado, olive oil drizzled on salads, a T mayo on chicken turkey or eggs and a few nuts or olives for snacks. When I was using higher doses of insulin I would get hungry if I didn't get it there at the right time and hypo so needed to eat. Not sure how any body can avoid that eating carbs. I never figured it so now all my carbs come from above ground veggies and under 20 a day.

But of course YMMV

Hi. How come a slimming company makes foods that are full of sugar - am I missing something! You need to have a low-carb diet. High carb foods are a no-no for both T1s and T2s to avoid weight gain (and bs for T2s). Forget any branded slimming foods.
