Hi I'm type 2 diabetic on insulin and metformin.
Recently joined slimming world, was doing well but now having terrible nightly hypos, discussed with gp, reducing insulin butbslow as long acting so takes 3 days to adjust. Have not had a full nights sleep for a week, struggling with work and worried about going to sleep and not waking up.
Ant advice would be welcome.

Go to bed slightly higher? So have a bedtime snack out of your daily allowance.

Yes I do that, and have had extra toast, and or bowl of cereal. try to keep my healthy extra just for that but obviously due to eating a lot less in the day unfortunately not helping short term.

Huge hug. Hope the basal change kicks in soon for you. Only other thing is to set alarm for say 3am to test and snack then so sleep is less interrupted than by full on hypo.

To make any difference to my BSLS I find I need to adjust up or down at least 20%.
It may be quite different for you but if the reduction is say 5 to 10% it might be worth checking with your GP to see if a different adjustment is needed.
I do not understand why it should take 3 days for an adjustment to work, unless you are prescribed a very long-acting insulin.
Night-time hypos are scary.
In the meantime you might need to consider 'eating long-acting' foods like foods with low GI to best cover the night time from supper onwards?
And I agree with @Diakat, setting the alarm for 3 am ish, until things improve.
Best Wishes !!

Thank you, might try that as woke up at 3 by chance this morning, blood sugar 5 so ate something and as not feeling too unwell was able to get back to sleep

Glad you had a decent night.
