I use a Dario meter which seems fine. I have been very happy with my post dinner readings which have been between 5.5 and 6.2. My fasting readings however seem still on the high side - and have moved from 6.1 earlier this week to 6.9 today and I have been eating very carefully. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help

There are many things which can affect our BG like food, alcohol, exercise, weather, time of day/month/year, illness, drugs, how well you slept, stress ...
For example, you may be going down with a bug. Which is raising your BG.

I am not sure if you have been seeing a gradual rise or are concerned about today’s morning reading. If just today, as there are so many things which can affect your BG, I would only worry if it continues to rise and you have no explanation. A one off anomaly could just be an anomaly.

I just did my post meal and it has shot up to 8.4!!!! which is way higher than anything in the past 30 days.

Had very light dinner - no alcohol or anything

Really concerned :-)

It's really the test strips that do the testing. 1) Are they in date? 2) Are they stored as per the instruction leaflet?
I would do a meter reading using 3 test strips (in quick succession) on the same pin prick of blood. Then see if they match. Also try the same with a new container of strips.
Home testers are not particularly accurate anyway. see link

PS many meters are supposed to be calibrated with a reference calibration fluid.
