Hi All,
My sister-in-law has been type1 for more then 15 years. She was using insulin pump most of these fifteen years. she wanted to try insulin pen recently and switched to insulin pen completely 3 months back. She really likes the freedom of not having insulin pump on her all the time and is able to handle most of the situations reasonably well with insulin pen. She is finding very difficult to handle foods that are high in protein and fat or foods that have low glycemic index and raise blood sugar very slowly. She doses multiple times to cover these foods and inability micro bolus with insulin pen also complicates the situation further(She is able to bolus only 1 unit at a time). It becomes very hard if she has protein/fat rich food for dinner. She was able to handle easily when using Insulin pump with square wave.
We are seeking advice/experiences from community on better strategies used by insulin pen users to handle to high in protein and fat or foods that has low glycemic index and raise blood glucose slowly .
Thank you
Prakash
