I disagree with that sorry , but type 2 can be reversed there are people who are now free from it and even taken off the register .

So the it's no con or money making scheme for anyone, I fact it costs the NHS millions a year.
I'm pleased you persuaded your Husband to have this test, has your doctor referred him? It's just that because this is a test for registered diabetics you can't just make an appointment with the optician. You have to wait until you recieve a letter asking you to make an appointment. If you just go to the optician they will not do the test without the letter. Sorry to hear of his other problems but he has to take care of his diabetese, hope it all works out for youWell for now he is in a state of anxiety as his mother is seriously ill also and she is also diabetic and celiac , so he isn't feeling on top of the world and said he doesn't want to add more to his woes, he is also anaemic and has ear wax build up which is causing him pain and it is taking a long time to soften before the nurse can clear them . He is really under the weather right now seems lots of things came at once . So at least i have convinced him to at least have his eyes done at the opticians which use the same machine and I'm sure they know what they're doing also as a lot of people have praised them for finding problems which was caused by diabetes so they must know what to look for too .
Welcome to the forum, type 2 is a progressive condition and the best thing we can do is get good control which hopefully stops it's progession. Hope you're coping with it all, there's so much help here and lots of success stories good luckI was told last Monday by an expert that it can be controlled and taken to a "normal" level through diet and exercise but it will never go away, if the person reverts back to normal life it will be there again.

I. Have been trying to get this accross to others for a while: Certain Opticians are registered with the NHS and they do the same test as the hospital. By using the hospital and opticians it means people get quicker appointments, the NHS pay the opticians for thier work, whether the photographs are taken by one or the other they all go for a second check by specialists so you can be certain that both parties are doing the same job. Unfortunately both use the same drops and the test cannot be done without them but it is vital the test is done, a little more persuasion and I'm sure he will put his brave head on. Good luckHe has an appointment for the NHS test Monday but isn't going to it, he is going to the doctors Monday night and going to ask for a test at the opticians, i don't think he will have the one the NHS offer though because of the blurred vision afterwards , but he said he will have the one the opticians offer . I can't do any more than this he isn't well at the moment and this is causing him more anxiety . I'm just happy he is at least going to ask about the opticians test but if they do it and he suffers blurred vision he won't even attend any appointment as he has no trust at all in the doctors . I was shocked when he allowed them to take blood and check his feet , and this appointment coming so soon has just made him more distrusting of them

I understand you don't mind but some people do and can't bare the thought of the procedure and blurred vision for six hours or more .My wife's sister is T1 and has been totally blind for about 13 years now. For the sake of a simple, painless photo, is blindness worth the risk. If there is a problem with the retina, the screening will detect it at an early stage and treatment can begin straight away. I go every year.
I have only been diagnosed 18 months but in some ways I wish it had been 4 years ago then I would have had the retinal test for diabetics earlier and I would not have lost the sight of one eye (not diabetic related) but the optician said she would have noted the swollen vein behind my retina which eventually burst and caused a blockage in the retina, the damage is permanant. your insensitivity to those of us that have lived with this chronic condition is unprecedented.But the opticians do check for diabetes conditions, doesn't matter im bored of diabetes now its like its started taking over my life and im not even diabetic . Its evil .
He won't go he doesn't trust the NHS , he says they are just prodding about and he has nothing wrong with his eyes but would probably have if he let them mess around with them .
why would anyone want blurry vision for hours on end and sensitive to light , it makes no sense and who knows what damage is being done to your healthy eyes .
