Hi folks, two more Newbie questions;
1. How do we dispose our used lancets and test strips?
2. Advice please ... We have a long standing family trip to London, planned before diagnosis, to see 'Hamilton', our excursion includes afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason's , which will play havoc with my Blood sugars I guess! I want to enjoy the trip and not feel guilty ... or ill, any advice / suggestions? ( PS I know, a very 'first world' problem but we've saved a long time for it and I want to make the most of our break ).

Thanks in advance kind folk ...

1. Test strips can be returned to an old pot and thrown in the usual rubbish. Sharp disposal varies per area (some are collected by the council, some go to doctors, some go to pharmacist, ..). So it's probably best bet is to ask your local pharmacist.
2. I would contact Fortnum and Mason and explain your dietary needs prior to arrival. If they ask for suggestions, I guess you could have the sandwich fillings without the bread?

I have never had a problem asking for the ham or cheese or salmon with salad instead of bread ,and you could perhaps ask for strawberries and cream instead of cakes ?

Hello & welcome. Sounds like a lovely afternoon. I use either the empty test strip pot or you can get small sharps bins from a company called FRIO

When you say "sharps" do you mean your finger stabbing lancet?
They can be put in an old tub of strips, along with used strips, and thrown in general rubbish.

As for afternoon tea, sandwich fillings rather than with bread are fine - I would have thought a place like that would oblige quite happily, and berries with cream would go down nicely instead of cake. To be honest, if it were me, I would eat a few sandwiches anyway - they probably cut off the crusts - as long as you don't go mad. It is a special occasion.

Have a wonderful trip, and relax and enjoy it.
