I've been diabetic for the last 5 years controlled by metformin and gliclizide, I also have High BP controlled by candesartan , amlopidine and statins. I am getting irregular (maybe 3 times a years) episodes of extreme dizziness (once resulting in a faint) rush of blood to the head and a feeling of loss of control of body. Episodes usually last for 2 or 3 days of intermittent attacks, which my doctor diagnosed as panic attacks. I'm trying to find out if there could be any other cause. I'm going through a series of attacks now and its completely debilitating. I've never had the problem at work before but now I am experiencing symptoms whilst on a client site. Any ideas?

I wouldn't just accept the blanket term 'panic attack', they seem to be using that term like they used 'depression' when they haven't a clue what's wrong with you but suspect it might be medication related. If your GP considers it to be a panic attack did they offer medication for that or not?

I'd keep going back to the GP and telling him that these are debilitating attacks and perhaps ask for your BP and medication levels to be reviewed and also for a diabetes review.

Thank you, I will give it a try, need to do something.

I would be inclined to get hold of a home testing BP meter and test your BP at the time of the attacks. Really low/high blood pressure causes quite weird symptoms. Or you could ask your GP to put you on one of the 24 hour BP test units to track it.

The home meters are fairly inexpensive and can be useful to have.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but has anyone mentioned B12 deficiency to you? That can certainly cause dizziness of the type you mention (try googling it), and being on metformin for 5 years could have depleted your B12 absorption. Just a thought.
