Dizzy and feeling sick all the time for 3 months

Hi @Lucia1 Dizziness & sickness could be anything really, what are your bg readings like? I know I always feel sick when I'm higher than i should be

It might be unrelated to diabetes. It sounds more like an inner ear balance thing. For example labyrinthitis or vestibular nerve inflammation. My husband and a friend have both recently suffered from these conditions and the symptoms (dizziness and nausea) sound very similar. Look after your diabetes the best you can (7% HBA1C is not that high) and see the ear nose throat specialist and I think they might be able to help you. I wish you a speedy recovery.

agree with above, have you had regular blood tests (not just one or two, maybe a number, every two weeks) re electrolyte imbalance (this can be to do with diabetes, and may come and go), and have you had tilt table test? MRI? (may be better than CT ), its just a process of elimination, you need to go through all the tests at ENT, surprised you did not have these first. Also are you on other medications or do you have other autoimmune diseases , eg. hypothyroid disease?

A colleague had this and it did turn out to be ear-related so hopefully your upcoming appointment will provide some answers.

After my son passed away, I started being sick and feeling dizzy all the time. I went through loads of tests at the hospital and they found that I had exocrine insufficiency - my pancreas wasn't producing enzymes to digest food. I now have to count each gram of fat I eat and have to take a Creon 10,000 capsule with every 6g of fat. I also needed vitamin B12 injections every 3 months and have to take 2 huge Accrete D3 tablets (calcium/colecalciferol). Measuring fat content as well as carb content is a pain, especially when out for a meal, but you just have to get on with it.

Hi Lucia1, my daughter (T1) had similar symptoms for about 4 weeks earlier this year. I initially thought she was just suffering from a viral headache but it didn't improve over a week so I thought it might be labyrinthitis. I arranged for her to see a physiotherapist who was able to carry out 1. Vestibular Physiotherapy and 2. The Epley Manoeuvre which can clear Labyrinthitis. She was assessed using Vestibular Physio and the Physio decided that she did not have labyrinthitis and that the most likely cause was pressure on a nerve in her ear caused by a virus. He checked out her balance etc and was very reassuring advising her to try to fight through the feelings of dizziness as otherwise the brain adapts to it and has great difficulty adjusting to normal sensations. I think it would be worth asking to be referred to a physio as if it is Labyrinthitis it can often be sorted after a few visits with the Epley manoeuvre. (I know a number of people who have had this procedure carried out and it has worked) Google both vestibular physio and the Epley manoeuvre as this should give you some idea of what to expect and explain the workings of the inner ear. Labyrinthitis can last for months (I've had it) and can come and go often when body is under stress/below par. I really do hope you get some relief as I can sympathise with the awfulness of the symptoms.

Mine has been going on for 19 months. They thought gastoparesis but I've had all the tests and we still have no diagnosis. I have anti dizzy and anti nausea tablets. X

I had the same problem and my blood pressure was ok but the doctor suggested stopping one of my blood pressure tablets anyway. I have been back to the doctors after 2 weeks and my blood pressure is still ok and the dissy spells have stopped.

I'm sorry to say long before my t2 diagnosis I started suffering with nausea and dizziness. I've been through the whole battery of tests and 16 years later I've had numerous diagnosis including acid reflux, and labarynthitis. I've given up on knowing what causes it and now just ask the dr for the meds that work.

I had nausea for 3 or 4 months over summer last year. Had what seemed like every test under the sun (including some invasive ones to check for Chrons/IBD etc. as I also had some random stomach pains) and nothing could be identified. I also thought gastroparesis could be the cause but given my tight control it seemed unlikely. Thankfully it passed but I'm always worried it will come back. I think it might have been anxiety/stress related, but no idea really. Doctors were initially all too keen to blame it on T1 but I soon shot them down on that.

It was quite a few years ago, but I think they'd been ill for weeks and it was eventually discovered that they had an ear problem. I remember they said they felt so nauseous some days they had to lie down.

If you are seeing an ENT specialist it is most likely VERTIGO. They have ruled out a brain tumour, so, is more likely to be down to a middle ear infection or aging where tiny pieces of bone float about in the middle ear, causing your dizziness. It can last for weeks or months and can recur. Try not to get stressed as this makes the problem worse. There are YouTube videos which show how to do exercises to reduce the dizziness as tablets eventually can make the problem worse!
