Dizzy newbie

Good morning all. I found out in December I was diabetic and once I got over the shock started taking my diet etc seriously. I wasn't over weight before, around 13 stone tops but ate too many carbs, biscuits and loved my red wine. The diet has been really easy and very tasty. I am on 500 metformin once a day. I have lost alot of weight - down to 11.5 stone - on diet and 30 mins hard walking a day and feel good BUT I do get dizzy, especially in the evenings, which is when I take my pill. I have waves of dizziness coming over my head around the time I eat. I have been trying to work out what it could be. My blood sugars are good 4.3 in morn, 5.6 1 hour after food and 7.6 2 hours. My blood pressure is good, low if anything but my heart rate is also low. Ranges between 48 and 55. I am not a runner so it can't be that I'm super fit. I had thought it could be one of 4 things. Oh and I do get a little tired after my evening meal.
1. A simple metformin side effect
2. A few more carbs in the eves than I have during the rest of the day?
3. A trapped nerve or some nerve issue related to neuropathy
4. Maybe too much weight loss to soon and not enough of a snack in the afternoon

If anyone has any ideas / similar experiences it would be wonderful to hear them.

This may be nothing to do with your diabetes, if your heart rate is that low this may be a cause of symptoms. Talk to your GP about it.Are you on any medication such as beta blockers??

Agree it may not be diabetes related. Metformin does have side effects, although normally gastric in nature. You say you have low'ish blood pressure so it could be that I guess - years back I used to have dizzy spells and even faint. Then it just stopped. Doc put that down to low blood pressure after eating, even though I was high'ish much of the time. If you do have low blood pressure, and you've lost weight, it could be a mix of that. Time for a chat with the Doc?

Thanks for that. I have been keeping an eye on blood pressure, certainly lower after weight loss. I'm also taking a 40mg statin which I have heard can make you dizzy but like you say time to discuss with doc. Have to say I find the feedback from fellow diabetics far more satisfying than from docs. I guess that's because they appear to pigeon hole due to lack of time. I will see what doc says and let you know. Enjoy your Sunday. Cheers

Are you drinking plenty of water or fluids with the Metformin?
When I was first diagnosed i had a period of feeling dizzy at times and like you I had lost quite a bit of weight. I also used to get headaches quite a bit. I then realised the Metformin was dehydrating me and so made sure I always drank plenty (I take 2 tablets a day one at breakfast and one with evening meal). Since then I felt fine as long as drink enough.
Just a thought, HTH.

Thanks Angie. My other half does say I don't drink enough water. I probably manage 2 pints a day, which I guess is not enough. Will try and double it and see what happens.
