hi
my daughter amy has been a type 1 diabetic for 11yrs things have plodded alone just the usual hospital admisstions when she has high sugars due to illness, but for the last 3 months she has had a rapid onset dka 1 every month her levels shoot up sky high and she is admitted to hospital as an extrem emergancy its getting worrieing now because they cant find an infection when they do the blood tests she is carb counting and has got it down to a tea things go along nicely and then all of a sudden without warning she gets a rapid onset dka.think the rapid response paramedic should have his own parking spot outside my house.she gets rushed in to resus and put on drips and insuln drips they debate wether or not to send her to high dependace intensive care ,and she ends up on the childrens ward in the hdc unit ,she gets sorted out sugars get bk to normal and shes sent home ,3/4 weeks later we are back there again with the same thing and it seems today as if things are going bad again shes in bed high bloods high ketones and feeling very unwell fingers crossed this time shes manageing to keep the fluids down.the hospital and diabetic team dont seem to be able to give me an answers as to whats going on with amy and im sure regular rapid onset dkas are not good for a 15yr old.
