Hi all from all the way from New Zealand
Thanks for all your posts

It's been great reading through on here. Can't say enough how much it's
helped
I had a rather violent start to my diagnosis and it's drawn a fair few
questions I haven't been told much about. So thought I'd ask if anyone has
more to add - I haven't been able to find much in searches, so hope this isn't another version of the same question.
I 'got?' (If that's how you say it) what was the start of DKA one Wednesday
evening. I had previously been fighting off what I thought was the flu for
a few days. That evening I started vomiting after dinner and by midnight
was just bringing up what to me was seemingly very hot blood
Off to hospital.. It took emergency department until ~7am to tell me I was
diabetic and had this DKA thing. At that point I had been given many anti
nausea drugs with the promise I'd soon feel better. This continued .... I
was vomiting and unable to eat or drink for ten days following. Throughout
this time I would almost daily be told I was going to be eating by the next
morning and all was going to be well...but it took some time!
Once eating again I was discharged and have begun trying to recover.
Frankly managing my diet and insulin has been straight forward for me. But
getting (waiting to get) my energy back has been driving me nuts! Again, I
was told a couple of weeks on easy duty and I'd be OK, but its been almost
three months and I'm only just back on my feet doing normal things now...
And still get the stuffing knocked out of me if I'm on my feet for the day
and especially at the moment because it's summer here, if its a hot day I
fall behind quickly
Also have since discovered that my case was severe and frankly I don't
think the doctors knew what to do with me or how bad it really was?
Anyway just reaching out to see if there's others who have had bad cases or
experience to share of DKA recovery that could help
All time to read and share greatly appreciated
