Hello everyone, I’m 31 and I was diagnosed in April 2018.
I have to admit when I was first diagnosed I threw myself into making myself as well as I could. Over the last 6 months I have to admit through depression and other issues I have been poorly controlled.
On Saturday evening I was admitted to hospital with DKA. I was vomiting every 2 minutes, shaking, freezing cold.
I was terrified and I never want to go through that again.
The question I have is, has anyone else that has had a bout of DKA, had really really severe heart burn and burning or sore mouth? I haven’t been able to eat in 2 days. (I was discharged out of hospital after one night.)
Is this something I now have to live with? or is it something that will ease with time?
I’ve been closely monitoring my BG since hospital and trying to get it as stable as possible. Although it’s a struggle with rapid acting and food. When you think you can eat but you can’t.
Any advice or help would be really appreciated. Thank you

That sounds very yuck, on top of your other issues.
I don't have any experience with this sort of thing, so no advice to give, only a big hug.
Are you taking anything for the heart burn? Have you asked your doctor about it? It may make you feel better and allow you to eat.
I think liquids, like soup, and well cooked things are easiest on the stomach. Hope you'll feel better shortly!

I was in hospital for 4 days with DKA last month (it was how I found out I am T1D). FWIW I didn’t get heart burn nor a sore mouth as a result and I don’t remember anyone talking about it as a risk. I wonder if it is more to do with the vomiting/ bringing up stomach acid??? You have my sympathies it sounds like you’ve had a miserable time :(

I agree lots of drinks are a good idea. I think the dry/burning sensation in your mouth has probably been caused by stomach acid coming up through vomiting. I've had that when I have been in a similar situation. It will definitely clear up but may take a couple of days. Keep a drink within reach beside you all the time, including overnight. Just give it time and it will disappear. Hope you start feeling better soon.
