Hello my name is Tony I am a support worker and i have type 2 I work with a young person and he is a type 1 he has asked me to find out if he can get DLA. I thought this may be the best place to find out. Can you help please :) Keyworker.

I dont know any type 1's who have applied for the DLA and been refused. but then I only actually know 6 in person. If awarded the higher rate in mobilty or care componant this entitles you to working tax credits also. Which awarded by the inland revenue.

i get dla for other reasons and im now on the lowest rate, none of mine is because of diabetes,i was told u cannot get it unlesss u have diabetic complications :D

The thing to remember with DLA is that you need to fill the form in as if your client was experiencing his worst day. When they ask what help he needs you need to tell them what he needs when he is not coping, rather than when he is. You really need to emphasise how ill he can be on his worst days, rather than how well he can cope sometimes.
