Sir,

My mother is 64 years old and she is a diabetic and also sufering from breathing problems for the past 2 years. She takes insuln injection 2 times and omnacortil 10(twice a day) and also breathes with the help of a respirator.Recently she started to feel difficulty in breathing and restlessness and from yesterday i stopped giveing her Omnacortil(as i have heard about its side affects) and started using mucinac 600.It was okay.

Today early morning around 4 Am she called for help. She was sweatting. Her legs were swollen(though her legs were found to be a bit swollen for the past 2 months and everyday i massage ger legs twice and things were okay). The swelling was not a mild one but seem to be serious.I checked her blood sugar level and it was 58.I got confused. She is a diabetic. How could her blood sugar level drop to such a low level?Today afternoon again she struggled to breath and was sweatting.I checked her blood sugar level.Again it was very low-- 60

I gave her banana and some biscuits and that made her better to some extent. But her legs remain swollen. Please suggest what to do?what exactly might be her problem?Though i am going to consult a doctor regarding this i am very eager to know what could be causing this and what is happening to her.I'll be grateful if you provide me with answers and suggestions.

Insulin used:Lupisulin M 30 (Isophane)

The blood-sugar levels you report are high - very high.

Anything below 4 is low.

I hope you've just made a mistake and the readings were 5.8 (not 58) and 6.0 (not 60).

Either way, I think you need advice from a medical expert - perhaps urgently.

That's low.

I still think medical advice is needed, not least with regard to how to read the meter results.
