Hi all, I would really appreciate some help in understanding my glucose readings.
A bit of background: type 2 diabetes is very common in my family. Had a HbA1C test last year, was told "everything is fine", not told what my reading was. My BMI is low so I can't help but think doctors aren't taking me seriously, and I'm now aware that low iron levels can affect this test which I have.
I've now purchased my own glucose monitor and I have low fasting blood sugar levels (3.7 mmol/L this morning). When I have a normal, healthy meal it goes up to 5-6 mmol/L. However I had a chocolate bar and 2 hours later it spiked to 8.5mmol/L - into the prediabetes range.
So do I have prediabetes? My fasting glucose levels are low, is this normal with high post-prandial? And is this something should discuss with my doctor or self-manage? In my experience they've not been particularly helpful.
Thank you so much for any advice! It's very appreciated
