Hi
I'm only 9 months in so still honeymooning. I currently just take Novarapid to cover my meals and that is going well. However for the past few weeks, on waking my sugars are going higher than normal. I used to wake with a nice 5.5 type reading. Now they are always in the late 6's and occasionally drifting into 8s.
The GP says not to worry ... however I am trying for the magic never over 7.8 ... so for me, it is time to act.
Questions:
Do I now need to start some overnight basal? If no, which one and how do I work out the initial dose? My GP knows me well and is usually supportive if I go to him with a plan he thinks is sensible or can check out that it is sensible. So... do I need Basal ... anyone got a plan I can try out with my GP?
What might be causing this AM spike - I find that if I have something late at night, I usually wake with readings nearer 5.5, so is it a night-time hypo ... but what could cause that as I don't take insulin after about 7pm and usually only a couple of units to cover carbs in the meal.
