I was diagnosed with typeII diabetes about five years ago i was started on metformin within the year which then was added with gliclazide which for the last three years has enabled me to have 'good' control (hba1c 7.1) however over the last year it has been creeping up to now it is 9.6 . i have recently had a load of blood tests for a clinical trial and one of these tests came back as too low this was a c peptide test although no figures were given. as my glucose levels are high does this mean that i need insulin as my pancreas is not working as well as it was? and should i see my gp about it as the clinical trial did not send results to my gp and because i did not meet their criteria because of the c peptide test i am not on the trial. so they havent explained anything either, am so confused :?
any help appreciated

Hi scooby,

If you are worried about the test results whilst participating in the trials I recommend you go to your GP and explain what has happened. He may suggest you see a specialist if he thinks it warrants it. We cannot say whether you will need insulin as we are not qualified to do so.

This explains the c-peptide test.

I would suggest looking at insulin as a way to improve control rather then punishment for bad HbA1cs ("psychological insulin resistance") - the new insulins, at least, aren't really that bad. Sure, it is scary at first until you work out how you react to the insulin (I called my DSN literally 15min after I had been discharged from hospital) but it will become routine very quickly.
