Thanks for taking the time to answer. Yes the tests I took of my blood glucase levels were as follows: 7am before food 6.4; 9am after breakfast 6.2, The following day 6.30am before food 5.8: 8.30am after breakfast 6.3. The next day; 6.30am before food 5.6; 14.30 after lunch 5.4. The following only one taken at 7.30am reading 5.5. As you can see they are all quite low, even after breakfast (Porridge). This is why I am confused as to why my doctor insists I am diabetic.sugarless sue said:Welcome to the Forum, unfortunately no one on here can tell you if you are diabetic...only the doctor can say for sure. You need to go back and clarify as the doctor and nurse seem to be at odds with each other !
Your cholesterol level is high and if you need a statin then make sure you ask for another type, not the one that you know makes you ill. There are quite a few different ones that the doctor can prescribe.
Can you say when, during the day, you were testing ? The best way is to test just before eating then two hours after to see if your blood glucose level has been affected by what you have eaten.

Porridge is a slow acting carb which could have still been raising your blood glucose after two hours, with some foods you have to check three and even four hours after to check properly.
apparently my HbAc1 was 5.9, which is part of the reason for my confusion. Thanks for your time.dorjac said:I think you have 'profile' that indicates on the computer that you are in danger of diabetes. So they have tested you with a GTT Ask for a HBa1c test which records your sugar level over the life of red blood cells around 120 days. Weight down , more exercise, eat less fat ,get that cholesterol lower with statins and profile clears back to 'normal' and the upsetting threat might go away.
You sound quite like me. I've done all of that although as yet I've only lost.75 stone. I'm grateful to the nurse at my Surgery because she is the one who has taken the time with me. (Actually, when I saw the Doctor and she saw my Blood Glucose results, her reaction was, and I Quote, (I'm NOT worried about that!). So had it not been for the Practice Nurse I would have assumed I was Fine.dorjac said:I have seen posts elswhere from persons are very grateful they have been diagnosed a type 2 diabetic. It pulled ME up short. Too fat.....lost 2 stone very steadily over a year. B/P too high .....now down......Cholesterol 7+......now down to 4+. I eat foods that are absorbed slowly. Stoneground wholemeal bread. Wholegrain rice and pasta, yes PASTA. Fruit in moderation. New potatoes, available all year round. I use sweeteners, as guess what...I have a sweet tooth. I have taken more exercise by indoor walking. Aim for 6-7 K steps a day I wish someone had pulled ME up hard on my profile. The media are doing a lot of harm slagging off us diabetics/pre diabetics, diet/change lifestyle diabetics it can lead to fear and denial. I could be taken off medication in February after another blood test. I will always be at risk of diabetes even so.
