I recently went to my doctor for a flu jab. The nurse said she wanted to do a blood test for diabetes, the one where they take blood, give you a glucose drink, wait 2 hours then take more blood. 2 Days after the test I got a call from the surgery to say 'Come and see us'. The doctor says "You are 16stone, with a cholesterol level of 6. You must take statins and lose weight". I replied " I am here because of Diabetes, NOT cholesterol". To which she replies " Oh I'm not worried about that, your test level came back at 7.2" (The internet says that anything less than 10 after 2 hours is OK)
I then have to see the Nurse who confirms that I DO have type 2 Diabetes and gives me all the bits concerning Diabetes. Now because I have been very worried about this, I went and got a Blood Glucose Test Kit and Checked my Levels over a 4 Day period and all the readings were between 5.4 and 6.3.
So now I am totally, and absolutely confused. Do I, or Do I Not, have diabetes, or is my doctor just trying to scare me into losing weight and taking 'Statins' (which make me feel really ill and she already knows that. I think she is on Commision from the Prarmacutical Suppliers).
can anyone help?
