Do we "like" our options?

I was going to dislike your post - so where's the 'dislike' button, because we'd end up with loads of buttons to choose from.................daoh!

I know what you're saying - we shouldn't 'like' someone having a foot cut off etc. May be an 'Acknowledge' button?

I never understood the need for a like button anyway. I can post to say I agree/disagree should I feel the need to do so.

A thread would become too long and disjointed by all the like/agree/disagree comments Squire.

I take the LIKE to mean someone's read your message and it means something in some way to them, i.e. not irrelevant or boring!

You seem to be referring to one particular thread @pleinster
In the past this particular thread was being derailed constantly, members were sending reports to complain about it and moderators have been doing their best to keep it on track. Repeat offenders were advised by PM about this and yet they still do it. Admin posted within that thread as did Moderators to try and keep it on track by reminding posters what was acceptable there. It fell on deaf ears and now some posts are deleted as they are not relevant.

If there is something within the thread that needs replies and input from other members then Moderators will take that post and start a new thread for it within an appropriate board or PM that particular poster and advise them as to where would be the best board to use to get replies to their particular problem/question. There is also another appropriate board to post general day to day observations about Type2 diabetes.

I have seen likes being added to posts that did not contain a message and were just a quote from another poster. What one person likes may not be what someone else likes. You will also notice that people form groups within the forum and when one of that group posts, they will receive likes from the rest of the group regardless of the content.

What I find hard is NOT being able to reply on the Fasting level thread. So many new people start posting on there I want to encourage them. That was where I started posting (on the previous one that got closed) and had so many helpful and encouraging comments from people that helped me so much. I want to be able to do the same for others. For me I know I can ask questions on the Type 2 Life thread but it seems not many people use that thread. How can I encourage people to go to the Type 2 Life thread without replying on the Fasting thread?

I like the LIKE button and not everyone has the time to actually post or they may be feeling down, upset, burned out or a bit of a lost soul, so they can at least click on the 'like' a button as a way of joining in and making their contribution.

You could send the member a PM explaining where to post or could alert a Moderator via PM @Hiiitsme. There are other boards that their post will be seen by a wider audience rather than the Type2 life thread. There are many posts that are moved by Moderators from that particular thread and the poster is alerted.

I think an acknowledge button is better than a like, though I think people use like as an acknowledgement

1 thing ive spotted is a few ppl do loads of back 2 back posts in the topics just 2 get more likes,or it looks like thats what theyre doing anyway

I have always used the 'like' button to say I liked the fact that the post had been made, so it would apply to any messages that I appreciated. Personally I would rather do without it though. I agree with @Simon84

I think the like button was put there to be used .. Personal choice . Like the Facebook like ..! Same format ..
The follow button is there to .. For anyone to use .. Well I am talking the whole format now ..
It's a quick recognition
It's an acknowledgement .. Buddy support is one of the suggestions advertised by this forum ..
Meet friends it says .. Etc etc ..

What about the wave or the hug button that has been asked for before .. Not just by me ..plus other suggestions ..
Lots of things .. So I like the like button .. And anything that can keep a persons motivation going ..
Not always easy to be positve .. But I would much rather be encouraging to a person than not ..
And a active participating individual is better than know one at all ..

Facebook have wrestled with this for a long time. There is some reason why they have not implemented it, but I've not worked out what that is yet =P

The like button is on Facebook .. Has been for ages .. Hope I have not misunderstand what you are saying ..

should have been clearer in describing what I meant!

In replying to the original post, which asked if we could have some choices other than "like", (the example given may have been "hang in there" etc), added to this forum;
I responded saying that perhaps there's some wisdom behind why Facebook never added other buttons to vary the existing "like" button
