Very interesting question .Although I was controlled on diet only but then put on statins and now need medication .Had heard recently of a possible connection .

I think that I was headed straight for Type 2 with an unhealthy lifestyle. However, I firmly believe that taking statins rapidly accelerated where I was possibly already going.

November of last year: Weight 260, bad cholesterol numbers. Was put on 40mg Lipitor daily. Absolutely no sign of diabetes

3 months later a routine physical showed high glucose in my urine and a subsequent HbA1c of 9.5%

I doubt that the journalists would be interested in my story because I am not a Brit. However, I would certainly be interested in reading whatever they come up with.

To be clear, I am almost glad that I was diagnosed. Otherwise I might have never taken the steps to get my lifestyle in order. By saying that I am almost glad, I do not want to make light of others that have also been diagnosed. We each have our own story and path that brought us to where we are. In my case, I blame myself but I also give a big stink-eye to Lipitor.

For the record, I have regained control of my health and my numbers are now lower than those associated with pre-diabetes.

Hi Mike,

Great to hear you have regained control of your health. I will post a link to the article once it has gone to print. Here is a similar story which may be of interest to you: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/a...-wheelchair-doctors-insisted-taking-them.html

I had a similar problem - my hba1c was 48 on diagnosis, prescribed statins and my hba1c went up to 54. Since coming off them because of other side effects my hba1c has dropped to 36!
