well seen doc today and im asking myself should i of botherd,asked me what hapend to me when i thought i took a hypo,(cold clammy sweat,shakey,sickly,light head)NO that is not a hypo,i was told but i think we will stop youre atenolol so i chalenged him ,as it states not to stop these tablets as all kinds of nasty things can go wrong well his reply ,(dont believe everything you read)EH! :evil: said my blood presure was ok,he never took it as last time it was high,top and bottom,said blood was ok never tested,last time was 6.7bg so i fired some questions about low carbs :roll: got told off,well im still going to low carb :wink: asked him about coconut oil said he never herd of it but i should,nt use oil, :x . oh and i asked about a meter so i can check my bg ,thought he was going to blow a blood vesel :roll: i was told i dont need one.so out tomorrow looking for a diabetic friendly doctor. is there any?
 
oh dear,
some drs are good , some arent , i think its just a matter of finding the right one
 
I was on atenolol and came off it, but it was done gradually, I seem to remember over a month.

It was at my insistence, it does have a few side effects and isn't a great drug and was making me feel ill. But my main reason was the very fact you can't just stop taking it.
 
thank you humph, i thought i was rite, you have to come off them slowly,im going to ask for a second apinion. :?
 
you are not allowed to look at other relevant threads on the forum to doctors abysmal attempts at diabetic control and treatment and adverse comments to GPs ! why ?
 
How do you find a good doctor? Mine tells me not to test so refuses to prescribe me strips, thinks that very high FBGs are normal, tells me to fill up on startchy carbohydrates and increased my medication after my second HbA1c even though it had gone down from 12 to 8.7.
Should I ring around all the local surgeries in the area and ask the recpeptionists if they know whether their docs know anything about diabetes or keep registering with a new doc every few weeks until I find one that knows what they are talking about??

They are all General Practitioners, meaning they know a little about everything, but don't specialize in any area, although you may find that some may be more knowledgable about conditions such asthma, skin conditions etc.

As it happened, I was due to attend a DAFNE course a few weeks later, whereby I had ample time to discuss my control. I do wish sometimes there are doctors who can relate to living with, and controlling diabetes.

Maybe I'll stumble across one sometime before the complications set in :roll:
 
You might want to ask if the practice doctors prescribe diabetic medicines or refer patients to a consultant.

The practice I attend do not prescribe anything immediately after diagnosis, you a referred to a consultant. The consultant decides on the treatment and medication (I had two visits in a 3 week period) and the practice provides the prescriptions on repeat. After one further visit to the consultant I was told that I need not return unless the results from my 6 monthly blood glucose etc. checks and/or my annual once-over with my GP indicate that I am losing the tight control I have achieved.

Two of the doctors in the practice are T2 .
 
Try and find the web addresses for surgeries in your area as most GPs also specialise within a practice in one area so you might find a GP who also specialises in diabetes I know my practice has one but I actually see someone else as she has been so great, although he would be a close second.
 
lots of memberson here so even if you say what area you want your docs in maybe someone could recommend one ... not sure if thats allowed but by pm maybe :?
 
Well cant see anything in the rules against recommending or asking for a recommendation but maybe I missed or overlooked something. I'd prolly steer clear of giving negative feedback though.

Just to clarify this.
NO HCP is allowed to be named or their details given out on the open forum. If posted they WILL be removed. Any comments which name a particular person or GP Practice etc WILL also be edited to remove anything which does not comply with the forum rules which are very clear about this subject.

If you wish to do this sort of thing then use the pm system. This is not monitored. However do bear in mind that comments which a member finds offensive may lead to action being taken against the person sending the pm. This can and has resulted in banning. Keep it sensible, no problems.
 
Hi

On a positive I have never had any problems getting prescriptions. I often order three different types of test strips as Zac has three different blood testing kits and I have never been questioned about this. Had a few problems when he was first diagnosed with the pharmacy attached to the surgery, but thats all cleared up now-they even deliver his prescripts to my work place fortnightly.
