Hey all.

I've been type 1 for 10 years now and in the last 5 years my control has not been good due to my insulin sensitivity changing rapidly day to day. My blood sugars are usually good in the morning but spike up the moment I eat anything.

In recent years I've developed some digestive problems that my doctors think is chronic gastritis. It is possibly gastroparesis in my opinion - it seems to come and go and I think aloe vera juice has been helping.

One thing I have noticed recently is how incredibly sick and weak I feel at lunch time. It's to the point where my partner has to cook something for me because I feel nauseous and don't have the energy to cook. My hunger pains are so intense my stomach feels really "sour" and I feel shaky. Not quite as bad as a hypo. But its not a hypo because my sugars always sky rocket after breakfast.

It could just be hunger but I don't feel that way when I get up and have fasted while asleep? I always feel better after a hot meal like eggs. I usually only have a granola bar or similar when I get up because I don't have much appetite.

I also don't feel this extreme hunger at dinner time. Does anyone else have this issue? It's horrible. I've only just gone back to work after a neck problem that was giving me vertigo for 6 months and I'm worried this hunger is going to interfere when I'm back full time!

As a matter of general interest, have you been screened for Coeliac?

As you have identified foods that help you out, have you tried doing a few days (about a week, perhaps?) just on foods you feel to be "safe"? If you are OK on those, you may have the basis for an exclusion diet (adding in other foods, gradually).

Should your issue actually be gluten, it usually takes a couple of months to begin to feel better when it is eliminated.

If you have not been screened for Coeliac recently, please don't give up gluten until you have been screened. In the first instance it is a simple blood test.
