Of how to manage a cookie/cake decorating party? DD invited to a friends 10 birthday party and they are doing cake decorations. Works love to get advice re how to manage this or just accept that we will have highs that day . Is it possible to take a unit insulin just to cover 'nibbling'?
Thanks.
Hi @W00sterz00ey what is her carb ratio and normal eating pattern? Ie if she would normally have 10cho snack but is actually going to have 30cho maybe then yes some extra insulin. You could always see how much a cookie/cake portion is in carbs first? Just be aware of the timings etc as if they are sweet things likely to peak quite quickly and then possibly go low on blood sugars.
Could she maybe participate and have a small taste then bring it home? I know it feels very unfair when everyone else is doing it. Or like you say maybe retrospectively correct if she needs some extra insulin but she might feel quite ill if she has gone high. Sounds like a fun party though.
We are ill in our house and both my 2yr old and I hypo at the same time today which was interesting! Arrghhh.
Sorry to hear you were ill @1Sarah1 Hope you're feeling better. @mahola, I think I agree. Will try to manage it but just accept that it will be a high day. Thanks guys.
Party went well and I think it meant a lot to go there without parental supervision. I accepted that there might be errors, but she managed it really well. We didn't go higher than 10 all weekend!
