My blood pressure is not controlled at the moment, I have terrible headaches and the doctor says I must have another blood test to look at the state of my kidney's before increasing Ramipril to 5mg from 2.5 mg. My BG levels seems to be all over the place I thought it might be what Iam low carbing but I wonder if it is my high blood pressure? Sorry to be asking so many questions and I am very grateful for all the help I am given.

Diabetes and high blood pressure
About 25% of people with Type 1 diabetes and 80% of people with Type 2 diabetes have high blood pressure.

Having diabetes raises your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and other health problems. Having high blood pressure also raises this risk. If you have diabetes and high blood pressure together, this raises your risk of health problems even more.

If you have diabetes, your doctor will want to be sure that your blood pressure is very well controlled. This means that they will probably want your blood pressure to be below 130 over 80.

People with diabetes and high blood pressure are sometimes given the blood pressure medicines known as ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, because they are thought to help protect the kidneys. However, other blood pressure medicines can also be used.

What can high blood pressure do to you ?

Bg levels as such do not appear to be related to the high BP levels.

Your blood glucose level goes up and down throughout the day, based on the food you eat. Stress and other factors can also make it rise.
When I first started to reduce my carb intake I too found that my Bg levels varied wildly throughout the day. All settled down when I got into the routine after a few weeks.

Thanks Ken,

My problem is my GP I went to see her last week as I knew my BP was uncontrolled from the stress test I had she told me to go away keep taking the Ramipril 2.5 and return this Friday. I was so worried about as I have been recording my BP especially after exercise but just generally I phoned her to see if she had the results of the stress test -she hadn't. She told me 2.5 was a low dose(hello am I stupid or what!) and to come back next week and she would see about putting up the dose. I am going to look for a new doctor.
Yours fed up!

(you gave the weight in lbs so I had a feeling that you're based there)
Blood pressure medication is normally started gradually and increased, added to and/ or changed overtime to get the best results. One reason for this to be able to note any side effects caused by a particular drug.

Hi brisaya
If you have written this correctly, your son is 13 years old and 5feet 8 inches tall and weighs 260pounds.
He is very overweight and the height of an average adult man, so his age isn't the most important factor in what his blood presssure should be. It is likely it's too high, because being overweight, raises blood pressure. You'll need a medical specialist to work this one out. perhaps a specialist paediatrician.
I hope I'm not seeming too judgemental, but a child of this weight is in desperate need of weight loss before he develops serious health problems.
Does he have diabetes?
Is this why you are asking this question on this forum?
If so, could you give some more information about his condition and treatment and we'll do what we can to help.

firstly blood pressure is normally lower in the morning and rises through the day,you son should have a blood pressure under 130/80.it should be taken at rest and not after exercise or food as these things make it rise and will not be a true reading.i am 56 and have hardening of the arteries from smoking and had a blood pressure of 160/90,i was on medication wich brought it down slightly to 140-150/80-90 but the side effects were aweful.i have now stopped the medication and eat healthier and plenty of fruit and exercise and my blood pressure has reduced to anything from 115/68 to 130/70-80.my advice would be to reduce his salt intake(no crisps)cut out any chocolate and make sure he has 5 or more fruit and veg and exercise daily at least 30 minutes to 1hr of activity.it may take a bit of time to see the benefits, but keep at it and if he loses weight the blood pressure will reduce
