Hi, I've been Type 2 for 16 months. I have not had a reading in range since I was diagnosed. I take metformin 2 x500 once per day (can't tolerate more) gliclazide and insulin started 2 months ago. I have always suffered from depression on and off, but since starting insulin my moods are unbearable ( have taken anti depressants for years and recently changed in case they were not working) I have never felt so down/dispondent in my life , with every member of my family suffering. Has anyone else.experienced worsening symptoms with diabetes or is it me just falling apart. I'm always worse first thing in the morning and at the end of the day. Feeling at a total loss at the moment x

Sorry to hear that you're feeling this way...

Do you think that the way you're feeling is ultimately down to the diabetes and the struggles you're having with your BG?

Have you tried reading any literature such as the following to help get you on top of your diabetes? It sounds very much like its currently on top of you.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

It is quite normal to feel low after diagnosis. Firstly the lifestyle changes give a feeling of loss of the way life was before, and this is often reinforced by the press and NHS staff saying 'it is caused by obesity / lifestyle. your previous diet ' etc, and this brings about deep guilt feelings (Why Me? syndrome) and also anger with oneself. Then failing to keep HbA1c low and ending up on insulin also adds to the guilt and anger. More loss of freedom etc.
So yes, depression often accompanies diabetes, especially if you were already prone to it anyway. Firstly, I must ask what tranq you are prescribed. Recent research is showing that some antidepressants such as Prozac actually make depression worse.
i think that it would help if you could detail what insulin regime you are using to control bgl. What timings of meals and what bgl ranges you are seeing generally.
I see from your other postings that you have been on DESMOND, but this was probably before you started insulin. so have you been offered special insulin training? I also see you have been trying Low Carb, but also Low Fat. I am on LCHF myself, and find that to be better - I can only advise thar you research some of the discussions on this forum since many here are benefitting from LCHF. The previous way of looking at Fat has now been shown to be based on rubbish science.

I think many many many persons with type 2 has very bad readings... maybe not many in this forum and if maybe because their diabetes has been a long term diabetes....

But you can change it , is doesn´t maybe not even have to take very long time... but you have to understand that there are a lot of foods one can´t eat when being diabetic..... at least only for very seldome occations...
I don´t think most people are educated the best way when getting such a serious diagnosis.....I think a lot of persons are left far too much on their own... if diabetes is out of control and if one is not willing or able to change ones food choices then diabetes is a bad monster, if you take control and really learn it , I think you can live as long as most other people...wish you luck stay in this forum you can learn so much and get so much support , and a lot of people have totally changed their bad prognosis to a good one

I you are willing to change your foods really change half of what people usualle eat and learn what is all right, then you surely can get your numbers very much down... ..
