hi everyone I'm new here. didn't no where to turn. I suspect that my daughter who has just turned 6 has diabetes. was hoping for some thoughts, opinions, advice. the last few months I've noticed my girl get so tired, she gets run down so easily too. she's always pale and tired looking. i also noticed she gets so thirsty all the time and drinks a lot. also very hungry at times. other symptoms include bedwetting, constantly peering, abdominal pain, headaches, itchy groin.
I don't no much about diabetes but do u think she needs to be tested or am I over reacting? my mum also said diabetes crossed her mind. I'm so worried right now. pleasee any advice, info would b greatly recieved

Hi Catherine, none of us are doctors, so its not really right for us to give you a definitive answer. I think you need to get your daughter to the doctors to get checked over and tested. Whilst the symptoms you describe might be diabetes it could also be a lot of other things. Untreated diabetes can be really dangerous and if you have even the smallest suspicion you should get her tested as soon as you can. Its better to be told you are worrying for nothing than it is for your daughter to keep on with an undiagnosed condition.

Good luck

You have to go and see your doctor, he/she will do some simple blood tests to rule all sorts of things either in or out.

Diabetes can cause some of the problems you mention, but so can other illnesses.

Hi. Go to the chemist now and ask for glucose/Ketone dipsticks - around £10. Test her urine against the clour chart - if her glucose levels are high I would take her into hospital - A&E. No point going to the doctors. Say about the syptoms and the test you did if its positive. They will then do a blood test to see the blood sugar levels. This is what I did. I noticed the symptoms but didn't want to look like a parinoid mum wasting time so I did the glucose stick test on her (and myself as control) and then called the out of hrs doctor as it was the weekend who recommended taking her to A&E. My 6 yr old was dianosed last month. BW Tracy

thank u for the quick replies. the chemists near me are all shut today. but I will phone the doctor first thing in the morning. I've never experienced diabetes so wasn't sure what to do. just scared me matching so many symptoms matching it. also when my mum said she had thought about it I panicked a bit more
