The title is self explanatory, but had dizzy spells for about six months now and recent HbA1C was 44 and 45 but have not been diagnosed as diabetic or pre-diabetic. One GP recommended an IGF test and another has refused it point blank stating diabetes doesn't develop that quickly. Is that true?

Can't answer your question, but I was diagnosed diabetic after a few days of dizziness. In fact just today I've been feeling dizzy because I have been lax looking after myself recently.

If you follow the link to the bloodsugar101 website in my signature, you will find a number of studies, at least one of which shows that diabetes can develop in several different ways.
Type 1 is often very rapid onset.
Type 2 may take years to move through pre-diabetes, but can develop into full blown diabetes over a short period of weeks or months.
Type 2 can also be triggered by drugs, illness or emotional events like bereavement or trauma.

We are all unique, and we develop D in some very varied ways.

If your current doc is that ignorant, then you need to switch to another doc!

I have occasional dizziness due to low blood pressure and have to remember not to stand up quickly if I have bent down to pick something up etc

I was also having some dizzy spells when changing posture positions. I thought it was a blood pressure drop, but this was discounted and I was diagnosed with vertigo!
