Does the odd blip matter?

I'm recently diagnosed T2.

Should I stick to my diet 100% or can I afford to have (like I did last night) a teaspoon of ice-cream from my wife plate?

I'm now reading about carbs, which my the surgeries dietician didn't really mention much, I guess I made a mistake my having a ham roll for lunch too??

I shouldnt think a teaspoon of ice cream will make that much difference Rob ! The ham roll on the other hand, well , the bread content isnt good for a start !! Having said this , dont beat yourslef up over it , we all find it tough going at times and would surely go crazy if we didnt allow ourself the very very occasional treat, in small quantities though ! Its a case of educating your palate and getting used to a new regime, in time it will become totally normal for you not to eat all the things that you shouldnt !

Don't think it is a mistake if you meter shows that you are in your own target range. It matters not that I can't have a bread roll, seedy whole grain or white, it is what YOU can have or not. Having diabetes and managing it effectively for a happy outcome is a whole new ball game but so rewarding if you get it right for yourself.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
The thing that matters is how much total carb you eat. It's all in the Maths
Icecream is about 25% carb. If your teaspoonful weighed in at 10g, you ate 2.5g of carb, which won't do much to yyour BG once distributed through the 4 litres or so of your blood

I so agree. I have learned recently that a small amount of bread is fine for me, but potatoes really do send my bg up. The next person may well be different. I have gained more knowledge from the people on this site than I have from the nhs.

Hi Rob. :)

You certainly do need to learn about carbs, ham rolls are not a brilliant choice! :shock:

Knowing what puts up your BG levels and what has no effect is so important and makes testing so vital. I was staggered at what even a small amount of starchy carbs of any variety or kind does to me and have been empowered by that knowledge. 8)
