[QUOTE="megaman174, post: 1973625, member: 499542"] So I guess I never hoped I would post on here but think I might possibly be prediabetic or maybe even type 2? I haven't formerly been tested. I remember possibly a year ago having a few of the tell tale symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination etc. which prompted me to buy a blood glucose meter but I never really knew how to use it back then and thought probably don't have diabetes at only 24, so it sat in a draw for a while. Most recently I learnt how to use it and have done some post meal tests and was shocked when it regularly spiked above 7.8 mmol. I've done a lot of reading on bloodsugar101 and it seems to suggest that any reading over 7.8 mmol can do permanent damage to the body and in particular the beta cells of the pancreas so now I really want to keep it below that level. Below is a graph of one of my most recent meals. Because I want to learn how my blood sugar responds to different foods - I tested every 15 minutes for this particular meal. What shocks me the most is the rise in blood sugar - almost 4 mmol in just 30 mins! This wasn't a particularly big meal either - only 350g but it did have 69g of carbs. I guess this means my basal insulin/first phase insulin response is pretty poor. But honestly my second phase isn't much better either - there's a few sharp drops but at about the 6.7 mmol mark it takes a long while to start dropping lower. From what I understand the body wants to get it to below 5.5 mmol with the second phase. Does this look like prediabetes or type 2 with these readings? Also could extended fasting have caused such a drastic rise? I would have expected the opposite given the body has had more time to produce insulin.
