I nearly posted an anonymous question like this myself, but have been doing a lot of research during the last week into female hormones and the effects they have on glucose levels. I find myself in a catch 22 situation with my cycle and my control, and I think most women are in this predicament to a certain degree. Lack of control in BG makes my cycle go haywire, but also, my menstrual cycle makes my BG go haywire. I've found that mostly I get a lot more unnecessary highs and have read that the effects of female hormones can make the body more resistant to insulin - hence the higher readings. Last week had a gynaecological haemorrhage caused by high levels of unopposed oestrogen. It was random and scary, but I suspect that being diabetic may have something to do with it. My glucose levels have been running high for a little while, but for about 8 days they went up into the teens and stayed there. I hit 20 a couple of times too. I was given a synthetic progesterone, and since then my levels have come down quite quickly to between 5 and 9. (Still too high at times, but I'll take it over 20 any day). I think that our endocrine system is a synergy, with hormones having a wide range of effects on the entire body. So it stands to sense that changes in one or more hormone levels will ultimately have effects elsewhere.
