hi bluetit, usually my bs would be around 5.5 before meals and around 8 after meals but this last while ive been very sleepy this is the first ive been 9.6, never over 8.2It is most likely your choice of breakfast causing this. High blood sugars and also big swings up and then down again can cause sleepiness and fatigue. All cereals are high carb (you can check this yourself by looking for total carbohydrate on the box) plus skimmed milk has carbs. You really cannot rely on Metformin alone. The help it gives is minimal. Diet is the key. You may have been 9.6mmol/l when you checked, but what were you before you fell asleep - and what might you have been during sleep?
Are you checking all your meals before and 2 hours later, keeping records alongside a food diary? What sort of levels do you see? Have you noticed any patterns?

ok thanks bluetitIt would be a good plan to reduce the foods causing you to reach 8 (from 5.5) after meals. The Bran Flakes with milk could be a good start! Try eggs cooked any which way, maybe a cheese omelette, or bacon and eggs, or cold meats, or cheese.
like a logDo you sleep well over night?
im type 2 diabetic and i checked my urine with test strips and my urine has high ketones! strange?
my bs was 9.6 today after eating bran flakes but it is now 5.6, i only take metformin 500mgs twice a day, thanksWhat is your blood sugar? What oral meds are you on? Is it just the metformin?
