Hi guys,

Does anyone take abit more insulin then needed so that you can cover more then the meal itself.

Let me give you an example

Lets say I take a protein shake

15g carbs 5g fat 40g protein
I know I will need 1u at the time of taking the shake if BGL >5.5
about 1.5 - 2 hours after I will take about 2u to cover the protein and to stop the spike.

Here is the question if at 2 -3 hours post shake consumption I was to have a meal can I add the 2u on top of the bolus I would need for that meal?

Hope the above makes sense

I have done this and yes you can just add the 2 "protein units" to the meal dose.
I would see it the same as doing a correction at the same time as a meal.
