Got home from work this morning off- on the bus is tarted feeling light headed shaky and sweaty - checked my bg it was 2.7 walked home from bus stop and corrected - went to bed 4hrs later I was really shaky again checked my bg it was 3.4 not slept since then - now fighting with fatigue and fear of hypo never had a double hypo before - called in sick at work but I feel so miserable tempted to take a sleeping tablet but I'm scared of another hypo :(

How awful for you, is today's hypo's a one-off or are you experiencing hypo's on a daily basis?

The first rule is always to check your basal insulin then look at your insulin to carb ratio's when you start to have hypo's for no apparent reason.

I have done that and still don't know where I've gone wrong - but I'm feeling better pounding headaches have gone and my mum placed a rape alarm by my bed and told me to pull it if I can't move which tends to happen when I have hypo in bed/during sleep - I think that made me more relaxed so I could sleep without worry

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I've had the odd rare double hypo.. Usually basal related. Do you mind me asking what you treated your first hypo with? Did you following it up with a little longer acting carb if it was treated with something like the usual jelly baby/Lucozade/coke..?

This could be a case of the second hypo being caused by your liver restocking glycogen (pulling glucose from the blood to do this), to replace the glycogen that was lost fighting the first hypo. This is why it's advisable to have a decent meal after a hypo, with maybe more carbs than you would normally take.

I wouldn't take a sleeping tablet in this case, there is a chance you will wake up in the hospital. Glad you are starting to feel better, keep some snacks nearby to nibble on and watch some TV :)
