ok it's the last series ever ..
Do you like it , have you watched it , who would you like to be .. Do you like the era
This series Nicola is my ladies maid , but I will let @NicolaB70 tell you more .. She is off with a man anyway !
The staff are drinking the best wine in the kitchen .. Almost takng over the house .. Is that their plan ..
I meanwhile will take a little rest , cook has sent me up a little cup of coco and one of Mrs beetons sugar free biscuits ..

Loved it, good start to a new (and last) series. Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes ah bless them and poor Mrs Patmore being the go between, was amusing though.
I'm sorry m'lady (@Kat100) but a girt cannot refuse watching a certain Robert Downey Jr as Ironman!!! Us taking over the house...noooo, whatever gave you that idea? Wine was nice though....

Loving the new series. Glad they finally brought closure to the murder investigation. It's dragged on too long. Carson and Hughes - sweet. I wish they'd get rid of that "Danker" or whatever her name is. Evil woman.

Don't want it to end

Somehow we never got into Downton. I'm not sure why, because it's the kind of thing that Mrs hay-char usually likes to watch. All I know about it is that one of the Grauniad's TV critics is always demanding that they "hang Bates". Not sure what this means but it sounds promising .....

Same here, I watched some of the earlier shows ( nearly anything with Maggie Smith in it gets a thumbs up from me) but just couldn't get into it. Yet, I love Howard's End, Passage to India, Pride and Prejudice, Gosford park, Sense and sensibility and Little women

Yes it's odd: Gosford Park was written by Julian Fellowes, who developed Downton Abbey and has written a couple of well-received novels but somehow it's never grabbed my attention.

I like little women as well - mind you, my wife is 5ft 1in, so I would say that, wouldn't I!

Sorry to put a downer haha. I did watch the first series, but its a fantasy. We brits for some reason love costume drama. Personally I think its a cheap way of doing telly - its already been writ. I hate the way we think it was lovely and friendly for the downstairs team. It wasn't. I'm a socialist I suppose and I can only be grateful that we own most of the big houses these days.

I'm 5 ft 2 ins

You only have to watch Gosford Park to see how the downstairs staff were treated at times, the work load was tremendous and often the Lord of the manor had his evil way with countless females, fathering children and women dying in childbirth, or having to put their babies in homes.

Big fan of Downton Abbey, not read the whole thread as I don't watch it on the night but catch-up the following weekend, will be sad when it ends

Without giving anything away
Next weeks quote ..." We are all on the same side"
I wonder how it will end .. Winter will never be the same again .. Lady k x

I don't want reality, I want to be entertained.
I fancy Lady Mary, especially on a horse. If I'd helped her up when she fell off she wouldn't have given me the brush-off like that. It would have been a Lady C/Mellors scenario

She would have stepped on you Deejay, you wouldn't have even looked her in the eyes. Sowwwwy.

I watched part of the original series, but it never appealed for some reason, even though it's been filmed at Highclere Castle which is not too far from where I used to live. I much more enjoyed the real life adventures of the real owner - 6th Earl of Caernarvon who discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamen and was later apparently killed by the King's curse (but probably more prosaically in the form of an infected mosquito bite though...) I do quite enjoy some historical series and films though,

My favourite craft channel has today launched a whole crafting kit dedicated to Downton Abbey which is selling like the proverbial hot cakes...but for me it's a good reason to save my money.
