drink bottles spike blood glucose

I just bought brand new drink bottles that are supposedly bpa free and approved by FDA
the next day I test my blood and it is 6.9
then I have a large drink of filtered water [the water is what i have been drinking for years ] and my blood is suddenly 11

that puzzled me so i went through a mental list of things that could have caused it

i tested again 15 minutes later and it is 6.9 again

so i had some bacon and eggs for breakfast

and later i took my metformin and drank another litre of filtered water

and my blood was 11 again

usually the bacon and eggs only raise my blood by 1

so after all day of this merry roller coaster i decided that it must be that water bottle as that was the only thing i did differently that day
and suddenly my blood started being between 5.2 and 6.9 since i switched not to using that bottle

so what to make of that? perhaps something to be aware of when using a brand new anything - no matter how safe the manufacturer tells you it is, maybe it is not diabetes friendly

This information is also being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center ... No plastic containers in microwaves. No plastic water bottles in freezers. No plastic wrap in microwaves.
Dioxin chemical causes cancer, especially breast cancer.
Dioxins are highly poisonous to cells in our bodies.
Don't freeze plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
Recently the Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard.
He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating food in the microwave using plastic containers......
This especially applies to foods that contain fat.
He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin into the food.
Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food... You get the same result, but without the dioxin..
So, such things as TV dinners, instant soups, etc., should be removed from their containers and heated in something else.
Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's safer to use tempered glass, such as Pyrex, etc.
He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the styrene foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons....
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Cling film, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food..
Cover food with a paper towel instead.
This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life.
 
Just wondering If you Washed/Rinsed out the bottle before using ? if so I would pursue his issue with the Walmart and the Manufacturer Let us know how you get on

hmm yes as it said it is dishwasher proof i put the bottles in the dishwasher and i put previous drinking containers in the dishwasher too so it cannot be that. the water was not bought bottled water but from a filter at home on the tap and it was the same water before and after so it cannot be that.

and the water was not standing in the car or anything like that.

and the other information about dioxin and plastics is well worth taking notice of so thanks for bringing that to our attention

I actually refuse to use a microwave oven for anything as I read somewhere it destroys food enzymes and that makes your liver work 4 times as much to digest the food
 


well i am sure that my blood glucose spiking to 11 on that day was no hoax and the microwave idea may be without foundation but i still prefer not to use a microwave

thank you for bringing that to my attention though, as it is very useful to read up about these things
 
I’ve got one of those Chilly’s stainless steel bottles, it’s great. Keeps water really cold for ages. Only problem for me is that the lid isn’t attached to the bottle, just screws on and off.
 
To prove it's the bottle you would need to try using it again on a different day and see if the same thing happens and, of course, wash your hands before testing. It's more likely that there could be something interfering with the test which is causing a spurious reading rather than your blood glucose actually being affected.

for various practical reasons i dont want to do it again as a test and i had done everything correctly with my blood test and furthermore i have two different meters and they take different strips and they both showed the same results when i was drinking water from that bottle and yes i washed my hands perfectly well before i tested my blood

I have advised several people in positions of authority to test these bottles however they see fit.meanwhile i thought it would be kind of me to let others know the problem I was having in case it helps someone out there

i would like people here, however kindly to stop suggesting that my method was anything less than perfect because in strict laboratory conditions it probably was not perfect, but it was as perfect as it needs to be for me to be convinced that i want a refund for those bottles and i will stay away from those bottles forever after

however if your experience differs then that is fine and i dont want to change anyone's mind about anything whatsoever.
 
my dear friends on this forum

i want to add that on the day i used these new drink bottles i tested my blood 12 times

i have 5 years experience with blood testing and i have two different blood test meters and they use different test strips

it is unlikely that out of 12 tests on that day the only tests i mucked up and did not do correctly are the ones after i drank water from those new bottles and not when i ate food or drank from a glass

and of course how could i have done the blood tests correctly for 5 years and now once again i am doing the blood tests correctly but for those 3 occasions after drinking from that bottle during that day i somehow forgot all the correct steps to test my blood

take my observation about these water bottles for what it is - ignore it or dont ignore it. I meant it for the highest good
 
i got a full refund for these drink bottles now

nothing i do now gets my blood up to 11 so obviously that was the problem for me

also the manufacturer now knows there is an issue and also i notified other possible places where scientists might find the information useful for further research

all is well
