Hi everyone, my boyfriend has type 1 diabetes and whenever he drinks he becomes really angry and starts arguments/ is defensive. The thing is its between drinks as well. So, he can stop drinking for say, two months and then have a drink; and that changes everything. Its not a hang over. He's quite a sweet drunk! it can go on for days. He's usually easy going... he doesn't believe me when I point this out (usually when he's being nasty). Is this common? I can understand the day after but not two weeks! Thanks in anticipation. Gx

I've read your post 3 times and unsure what your saying.

Alcohol (with or without diabetes) can change personalities and make people argumentative and defensive, I think if his drinking is causing problems then he should leave it well alone, alternatively he could ask for guidance from his diabetes care team on the do's and don't when drinking, alcohol can have a lowering effect on blood glucose levels which can lead to hypo's, when people are hypo's then can act out of character.

If it is two weeks after a drink then I would very much doubt it was the alcohol causing the problem.

As noblehead said hypos can change people's behaviour a lot. Sometimes I get very argumentative when I am hypo.
