Hi I've recently given up alcohol but I still enjoy going to the pub and socialising. I'm not a massive diet coke fan but end up drinking it all night because it's the only sugar free drink available. Has anyone else had this problem or got any ideas on what else I can drink ? x

Plain water is supposed to be the best beverage. Diet coke is not good. Even though it doesnt contain sugar, the artificial sweetner contained in it is not good for health.

Maybe a non alcoholic wine? Big ask at a pub I know but perhaps that is a solution. Hopefully others will have some suggestions.

When me an the wife go out ( she has to do the driving) she drinks soda with a dash of lime cordial, I've tried it and it's really refreshing. I normally drink the dreaded diet coke but I normally can only manage I glass. And good luck for avoiding alcohol, pat on the back time I think

Well done - I couldn't visit a pub with having a drink so I take my virtual hat off to you !

Try and stay away from diet coke, it's really not good for you, artificial sweetners are not good for the body.

Water really is the best beverage to have, try it with lemon, sparkling, ice etc

Try sparking water with a splash of cranberry juice

I am in the same situation, i have given up alcohol, and whenever i end up going to a pub i just order water.

I don't see why you have to be peer pressured into ordering something just for the sake of ordering something. If the bartender or waitstaff start giving me the eye i usually just say "I am diabetic, caffeine intolerant and the designated driver" After that they usually ease up, and then know that from then on. At the end of the night i still tip the way i would had I been ordering beer so they have no issues.

Ginger beer. There's nothing in it.

What's wrong with diet coke? Is it just that or all diet pop?

Jury's out on the artificial sweeteners at the mo' but most of the diet fizzy drinks are not highly recommended, have you tried soda water with your own choice of lemon or various citrus , it's quite refreshing )

Lime and soda.
Soda and small dash of OJ
Sugar free cordials.
Sparkling waters mixed with dash of juices, cordial.

From experience dry white or red wine is ok or vodka...no carbs...but watch the calories)

I just stick to whiskey, gin, vodkas if I want to get on it. Strong enough to stop my liver dumping glucose and don't cause me to spike.

Always test and eat before bed though ha.

Lager will have me in the twenties after couple of pints unless I bolus for it, then I always go low, so I don't bother.

Gone off booze of late, but did get a nice bottle of Albelour from Sainsbury's earlier £15 off for £20, so that maybe short lived ha.

Diet coke 160g portion = Gi-low, Gl-low, carbs 0. Should cause no probably.
