Dropped my pump down the toilet!!

Yikes! I dropped my AccuChek Spirit Combo down the loo the other day (thankfully, when it had already been flushed!!!)

The AccuChek helpline said that as it was waterproof it should be ok, but to remove all the bits and bobs and give it a clean in warm soapy water, which I did, then rinse the soap away.

I tried, as best as I could, to dry it properly before reloading and connecting it, but I've now noticed lots of bubbly water below the piston, almost as if it's 'grown'! Presumably, if left unchecked, that could go mouldy.

Anyone know what the best way is to dry the pump out fully?

Thanks!

Try putting it in a container of uncooked rice -- bury the pump in the rice -- for few hours. Assuming you have some back-up insulin to use meantime? I've have heard this working for mobiles that took a soaking. Good Luck!

Otherwise if it is warranted to be waterproof you might be eligible for a replacement.

I haven't had this happen to me as yet but no doubt ......... lol

Have you tried directing warm air from a hairdryer down towards where the pump piston is to dry it out? Putting the pump inside a plastic bag with a silicone gel sachet for a day or so might also ensure that everything is dried out ?

Thanks iHs - I survived a year before doing it, too, so you've done well! It just came unclipped, such a wally! And the bloody tubing got caught on a random woman's handbag as I was getting off the bus this morning! Am having one of those weeks!!

Will try those tonight – I have still got my old Levemir and Novorapid in the fridge, but no idea what my old doses were, so don't want to do without the pump for too long!!

Hi

If you are at work or at the shops, going into a public loo and using their handryer might help to dry the pump out?

I've still got my bg monitoring books for basal/bolus so haven't forgot yet what my carb ratios used to be.
