Hi i am no longer taking metaformin as i have lost weight and am using diet control, my problem is my suger levels keep dropping , sometimes from exercise but sometimes for no reason, for example on waking blood sugar of 6.2 porridge, pear and apple, 2 hours later 4.4 from doing nothing, so if i want to walk my dog i have to keep shovelling in fruit, i don't want to have to eat heavy carbs am still trying to lose more weight, i also have thyroid which they say is under control

4.4 is ok - not sure why you think you need to shovel food. Your liver should and will (assuming it is healthy) keep your BG levels within your bodies norm. Try it and see

Do you feel off when you drop to 4.4? If not, as an unmedicated type 2 there should be no problem or necessity to shovel any food . 4.4 is a perfectly normal level. If you prefer to be a bit higher, you could try a cup of tea or coffee rather than shovel fruit down.

Maybe swap your pear for a banana or add a few raisans?? But 4.4 2hrs after eating is great I think although if u feel low at that then each to their own. But great job coming off metformin.

Sorry, I must disagree. Bananas are about the worst fruit for a non-medicated type 2, and raisins are also not a wise choice. Pears are better, believe it or not. ;)

Sorry i didn't explain that properly 2 hrs after sitting still it will drop to 4.4 which i can cope with but if i walk the dog for 2 miles i can drop to 3.5, i am trying to find a balance that will let me exercise without having to "shovel" fruit in to keep my level safe, i seem to burn the fruit off to fast but need to lose more weight so should i change my diet to higher fats. I don't get high sugar just low

If you want to have more stable bg levels, then eating slower release foods may well be the way to go. Only not those 'slow release carbs' the NHS is so beloved of... lol.

Fruit is VERY fast release.

The REALLY slow release foods are nuts, seeds, meat, fish, cheese, salads with mayo, that kind of thing.

I am an unmedicated T2 with a history of hypos, and I have gone the very low carb/keto route. I can have coffeencream for breakfast and go out for a nice long dog walk, no snacks, and come home 2 hours later with the same blood glucose reading as I had before I started. I rarely snack any more*, because my bg is stable enough, and I find 2-3 meals a day is totally satisfying and keeps me steadily fueled.

A strenuous walk will cause my bg to dip a bit, but never out of the comfort zone, and never to the point of needing snacks.

* I usually have 2 squares of 70% choc once a day, but you can put that down to being a gourmand, not actually needing it as food. lol.

I have just switched to Atkins (the newer version) online and am very impressed, so i shall give that a try for a while and see if it will balance me once more
