My wife is worried my BG is dropping too quickly, i have gone from high teens a week ago, to 6.2mmol/l before dinner today, i am being as sensible with my food as i can and lowery my carbs gradually as i learn more about food. I am not to worried but would like your thoughts? My BG this morning was 10.2 second lowest reading after the previous morning of 9.9, recently upped metformin to 1000mg a day. Almost zero on refined sugars.
Thought i was going hypo earlier, testec at 6.2, which is way way lower than i have before, i felt light headed, tired and sick, could be a quick large drop had the same effect as a hypo?
I think the others are correct suggesting you felt rough due to the relative low (compared to your starting point a week ago) score. As the body likes to run in its very own "comfort zone", your most recent "comfort zone" has been on the teens. So, you are now retraining your system to have a new comfort zone at lower levels. It happens to lots and lots of people, and provided you are otherwise fit and healthy and not on hypo inducing drugs, like insulin or Gliclazide (Metformin is
not one of that style of drug), then it makes sense to just work through it.
If you feel rough and want to "do something about it", then please don't reach for anything sugary, or you are just going to raise your levels quickly and back towards your old, unhealthy comfort zone. The odd time this happened to me, in the early days of my diabetes journey, if my next meal was due imminently, I just waited for that - I was probably just hungry! If my meal wasn't due, I just had a cup of tea, with a little milk (no sugar, no biccies, no fizzy drinks) and let that into my system. The little bit of milk will just nudge your bloods up a tiny bit, but it'll distract your system from asking for foooooooood. It works, and is very gentle. If your wife gets anxious in that situation, she might benefit from a cup of tea too!
Provided you can work through it, these feelings will disappear, or only occur at further lower levels. Always take note of how you felt, what you had been doing (exercising, manual work or watching TV) and when you had last eaten, and consider the logic above.
You'll get there and is seems like you are making excellent progress..
