Hi,
I suffered from gestational diabetes when I was expecting my daughter 12 years ago.....since then all I have been told was I was "borderline" The nurse at my GP has now said that she classes me as diabetic and wants me to take Metformin. Looking at the notes with then it advises to speak to your doctor if (among others) you take blood pressure of cholesterol lowering drugs...I take both, should I assume she knows this or check with her incase she has not checked my notes? Also am slightly bothered about"lactic acidosis" is this a common complication

It's fairly normal for all those people who are diabetic and on Metformin to also be on cholesterol lowering drugs (statins) and also BP drugs (ACE or ARB inhibitors - which are good for protecting your kidneys). However, in order to be perfectly certain I think it worth you checking with your GP. I would first check with my pharmacist and go armed with any information he/she gives you as to the particular drugs you are on. You can also google them, or check out netdoctor.co.uk which is a helpful and factual website.
