Hi, im a 34 year old male from the UK.

In 2019 i developed inflammatory dry eyes, aqueous and oil deficiency. This year in April i was eating chocolate and my eyes flared up for a week! I developed toxic tears i believe.

I am sensitive to add sugar based on this. My blood was tested for pre-diabetes but it came back clear.

My dad is diabetic and mum is pre-diabetic. I was wondering if anyone else suffers from dry eyes like me?

btw, i do not have any vision problems. I've seen 3-4 opticians and local eye hospital. I'm now thinking a keto diet might be the solution for me.

I don't have quite the same problems that you experience but I do keep artificial tears with me and use them after long periods working on computers etc.

Have tried a few now and stuck with a product called Hylo Forte after an eye consultant recommended it. But there are many brands available over the counter.

My hubby who doesn’t have diabetes at all is a bit older than you at 58 but he’s had dry eyes since his 30s - he uses eye drops a few times a week when he remembers or when they are bothering him, it doesn’t seem to be a diet thing more an environment/tiredness thing, opticians and a couple of specialists at the hospital have said in the past it’s just something some people have

Did your eye hospital think the dryness is sugar or chocolate related?

I've ended up with dry eyes as a result of chronic iritis (now resolved) which started years before I was diagnosed with diabetes, so not related to T2 or diet. I still need artificial tears, and am currently prescribed Hylo-Forte to use four times a day.
