This is my Diabetes Forum usernameEmail:*Location:Your Comment* (1000 characters max)

I have an ileostomy, diagnosed type 2 in 2010 but I'm not on medication, I have never shown any symtpoms my glucose tolerance constantly 6.5 or 6.3 consequently I have great difficulty understanding diabetes & the pitfalls,
To ensure it does not develop would the dukan diet help me, if so how do I find out about it. I can't afford to do anything that might upset the ileostomy. Would appreciate advise from anyone with an ileostomy, thanks

Hi cercor,

There was a debate here about the Ducan diet and the general consensus was that is was not diabetic friendly. Have searched but cannot find the link

If I was in your position then I would ask to be referred to a Dietitian as the diet would have to be beneficial to both of your conditions.

There is information for newly diagnosed diabetics that has great success here. Perhaps you could print that off and take it to you Dr. and Dietitian. They may be able to make adaptations to this to suit you.

Sorry I cannot be more help.

Welcome to the forum
I'm sorry that I don't know what the requirements are of someone with an ileostomy.
These are some things to bear in mind, though I think you should ask a professional opinion.
It's very high protein and thus low residue. (don't know whether that's good or bad for you) The lack of fat, according an answer to a question on the Dukan website 'reduces the lubrication of the digestive tube'
I don't have the full book just a little booklet that came with a French magazine. In order to counteract these problems you are supposed to eat oatbran and make mayonnaise and dressing with huile de parraffine (which I assume is liquid paraffin) .

Thank you for your replies, as you can tell I have still not got the hang of diabetes,I wonder if this is a 'mental thing', ie I don't show symptoms & not on any medication to remind me I am not learning enough about the disease. This of course will have to be rectified as I would prefer my situation to remain the same.

Isthere a Brendan, from HOSTED9 who is connected with Diabetes.co.uk, the reason I ask is a message has been left for me in my Hotmail, don't know any Brendan's & wondered how he got my address. Don't want to delete it in case he is offering information but I don't want to open it in case it is a scam.

Thanks again to the people who have helped me, no Dukan diet for me

Whenever in doubt it's always best to delete without opening.
