HI
I have been told by the diabetic nurse that I might have to go on insulin does anybody on the forum drive and is on insulin and have you told the DVLA?
has anybody had their licence revoked?I believe you are only issued a licence for between one and three years
Why 1 to 3 years is there some reason
I know insurace companys will not pay out if you dont inform them of your condition ? but I would rather chance it then having to lose my licence and my transport
I cannot imagine what life would be like without my car although I am now retired I only use it to go to supermarkets and holidays are you on insulin and a driver? any help on this topic would be most appreciated
regards

I read the rules yesterday, they're linked somewhere on the forum.

Your diabetes must be controlled and you can't be a danger/have things that otherwise would make it unsafe for you to drive.
You must be aware of when a hypo (low) is approaching.
You must not have had more than 1 hypo that required help from someone else to manage within the past 12 months.
And you must keep your test kit with you and it has to have a memory function - you must test before driving, and every 2 hours.

That's more or less what any sane person would do before heading out in a car anyways.

The 1-3 years is because they don't want you to suddenly become much worse without them noticing and probably also because they want to keep an eye on whether you're still fit to drive.

It's a bit of hassle, it seems, but it doesn't look impossible.

I had to inform them as am on and off insulin they changed my licence so its only valid for 3 years at a time. Had to fill in some forms and they checked medical records etc. Have to test before driving, have your kit on you and have breaks etc driving longer distances.
